Two hundred forty-five years ago a small group of patriots declared a baker’s dozen of fledgling colonies independent of the lone world superpower.

The thirteen colonies against the largest military in the world. A seemingly impossible venture.

Nonetheless, the fifty-six men who signed the Declaration of Independence believed the Creator of the universe oversaw the affairs of man. They firmly believed all mankind was created equal and endowed with unalienable rights and privileges worth fighting for…yes and even worth dying for.

This group of rebels believed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness could be the reality of every man, woman, and child.

Some were men of renown others were not. Farmers, merchants, physicians, and even a minister. Normal productive members of a society on the cusp of launching into greatness.

The “American Experiment” as it has been called. An endeavor to beat all previous endeavors.

The formation of a new government…a Constitutional Republic with Freedom at its core.

They would risk it all for freedom.

For they believed freedom of thought would give birth to innovation and incalculable prosperity. They believed freedom of religion would bring about true enlightenment. They believed freedom of expression would allow the truth to rise above the false and deceit of any age.

They staked their claim, their future…our future, on Freedom.

At times our Union may seem frail and weak. Some have sought to divide us tugging and tearing at the fabric of our unity. Many have tried to snuff out the flame of freedom with twisted ideals and fancy falsehoods.

Yet freedom marches on. A freedom still worth fighting for…still worth dying for.

Freedom gifted to us by the blood of past patriots and granted to all by the glorious grace and mercy of a Loving God.

For He, after all, is our True Source of Freedom.

And it’s that freedom that we are privileged to celebrate today.

God bless America!

Happy Independence Day!
