So, Mom…did you wake up this morning and think: “Another Mother’s Day to live in the shadow of that Amazing Wonder Woman of Proverbs 31.”
That Lady sure set the bar pretty high, didn’t she?
Up before the sun, toiling for her fam. Tailoring and weaving the softest silks and the finest satins for her household to wear.
A real estate investor and a master gardener. She has finely chiseled arms (for real! See v.17) and can still fit into the clothes she wore years ago in high school.
She is the servant of all servants and has the finest decor in her Pinterest perfect home.
Let’s not even talk about her handsome influential hubbie. A jock in college and an Oxford scholar, no doubt.
Whew! Not measuring up? No worries. None actually do.
Not even those Insta-famous moms with tons of followers who always look so put together, posed at just the right angle, in their perfectly staged stories.
Truth bomb: Most of what you see is fake. Just off camera are piles of laundry, dirty dishes, and dusty baseboards. Offline the kids are grubby and grimey and the hair is less than perfect. Their reality is not much different than yours.
Aren’t you glad God doesn’t have an Instagram account? He doesn’t see you through the lens of influencers, those very generous online filters, or the opinions of others.
Actually, He doesn’t even contrast nor compare you to the monolith of a Lady in the last chapter of Proverbs.
When he sees you, He sees His daughter. He sees a beautiful Creation made solely for His purpose.
He sees a mom who will sacrifice for her kids until she is spent. He sees a heart overflowing with love for the little ones He has entrusted to you.
He sees you as beloved. He sees you as precious. He sees you as relevant, prominent, and vital to His plan.
Not a second stringer. Not a bench warmer. Not a background player.
He sees a warrior. He sees a leader. He sees strength.
And what He sees is how things really are.
Not through the false filters of social media or the even the somewhat tainted lens of your own vision.
Because in His sight…you are incredibly awesome.
He sees you and He calls you blessed…even if you don’t have chiseled arms.
Hope you have the best Mother’s Day, Moms. Because you certainly deserve it.
